‘Diving-in’
Series currently in production.
"Diving-in" addresses the act of going deeper and embracing the various facets of life, both the good and the bad, whether personal or interpersonal in nature. The kingfisher, which is the subject of this series, symbolizes strength and adaptability. It represents the ability to overcome all the twists and turns that life throws at us, serving as an inspiring reminder that, like this bird, we have the resilience needed to navigate challenges and celebrate the joys we find along the way.
Produced in oil paint and watercolor, techniques selected for the polarity between the two.
It’s a form of metalanguage, water speaking about the movement of water. Using watercolor over oil, the water in the paint maintains its natural movement by forming small puddles on top of the canvas, which, when dry, become the air bubbles that form when you dive.
Because the painting support cannot absorb the watercolor paint, it is applied with the paintings lying on the floor or on a flat surface where the water collects and creates bubbles on the canvas. When drying, the pigment present in the paint settles on the surface, creating natural and delicate shapes.
